Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: Can my child try a class before enrolling?

A: Yes! We offer one free trial class for first-time students. It’s a great way to experience our studio environment and see if it’s the right fit.

Q2: What should my child wear to class?

A: Our studio has a designated uniform for each level. Students are expected to wear the correct leotard color and style based on their class placement. Ballet tights and ballet shoes are also required. Full details can be found on the [Dress Code] page.

For trial classes, comfortable clothes are okay.

Q3: What class level is right for my child?

A: Class placement is based on age and experience. New students are required to take a placement class. The teacher may also adjust placement as students progress.

Q4: Do you offer adult or teen classes?

A: Yes! We offer beginner-friendly classes for both teens and adults. No prior experience is necessary — everyone is welcome.
Please see details on our [Open Class] page and [Adult Ballet] page.

Q5: What is the class size?

A: We keep class sizes small to ensure personalized attention and safety for each student.

  • For younger age groups, the maximum is 12 students per class.

  • For older students, the maximum is 8 students per class.

Q6: What if my child is shy or has never danced before?

A: That’s totally okay! Our warm and supportive teachers will help your child feel comfortable and confident step by step.

Q7: How do I register?

A: Please visit our [Join Us] page for instructions. You can fill out the registration form and choose your class preferences. We’ll follow up with confirmation and an invoice.

Q8: Is there a recital or performance?

A: Yes, we have two performances each year: the Nutcracker in November and the Year-End Performance in June.
Participation in the Nutcracker is optional, but the Year-End Performance is mandatory for all students.
Performance fees are charged separately from tuition.
At the Year-End Performance, students perform ballet story pieces together, experiencing the art of ballet as a group.

Q9: What if we miss a class?

A: We allow make-up classes during the same term. Please contact us in advance to schedule. [Benefits for Internal Students]

Q10: Are classes taught in English or Japanese?

A: Classes are primarily conducted in English, but Japanese support is available as needed — especially for young children or families more comfortable in Japanese.

Q11: What is the Jr. Company Class?

A: The Junior Company Class is an advanced, invitation-only program designed for highly dedicated students. It offers specialized training including Gyrokinesis®, core strengthening, and pre-pointe preparation. This class aims to deepen technique and performance skills for those committed to serious ballet study.

Q12: Does the studio participate in ballet competitions?

A: Yes — we now offer the opportunity to participate in ballet competitions for students enrolled in our Junior Company class.

Preparation spans over 6 months, with an additional 15–30 minutes of rehearsal held after the weekly Junior Company class. Students may enter competitions such as YAGP (Youth America Grand Prix) and The Classic in Connecticut, depending on readiness and teacher approval.

Our focus is not on winning awards, but on guiding dancers through the process of setting goals, staying committed, and building resilience. These experiences help students learn how to manage pressure, overcome challenges, and develop strength that supports both their dancing and their growth as individuals.

Q13: What happens if a class is canceled unexpectedly?

A: In case of an emergency or last-minute class cancellation:

  • We will notify families by email, and ask parents to reply to confirm receipt.

  • If no response is received, we will follow up by phone.

  • Make-up classes will be offered for teacher-initiated cancellations. Refunds will not be issued.

This protocol ensures the safety and communication of all students and families.

Q14: Can I check if I have any unpaid fees?

A: Absolutely. Your payment status and invoices are always accessible in the Parent Portal.

Q15: How do I update my credit card information?

A: You can easily update your registered credit card details through the Parent Portal at any time.
